Klüber Lubrication has been selected to present at the upcoming SAE 2010 World Congress, April 13-15, 2010, in Detroit, MI. The presentation, "How to Evaluate the Compatibility of Thermoplastic Materials and Lubricants," will be presented by Peter Neumann and Dr. Jan Peter Robert, Klüber Lubrication München KG, on Thursday, April 15 at 11:20 a.m., session code M302, room D0-02A.

Abstract: Over the past few years the use of thermoplastic materials has been broadened considerably in many different parts of automotive components, such as door handles, dashboards, interior trim, seat covers, gearshift linkages and gearboxes. This paper highlights the importance of compatibility issues of polymers coming into contact with lubricants. In order to enable a proper function of car components, advanced elaborated testing should be conducted. Using the example of compatibility tests, this paper illustrates how the "lubricant" design element contributes to improving the function of polymers. Moreover, relevant test rigs and results are described and discussed. Visit the SAE website.

What is Tribology?
What is Tribology?
Tribology plays a major role in lubricant selection. Proper selection of a lubricant for a given application depends on a thorough analysis of the system's tribological parameters. Tribology - the study of friction, lubrication, and wear - is influenced by the application's speed, temperature, load, the type of motion, and the operating environment. Have you ever wondered how the word "Tribology" came about? Click here to read about "Tribology: How a word was coined 40 years ago" to find out more (PDF - 925 KB).

News The value placed on lubricants and related services offered today can be difficult to quantify. When choosing the right lubricant for an application, a variety of factors must be considered: lubricant failure costs, downtime, personnel time, lost product, increased productivity, reduced consumption, reliable operation, and greater re-lubrication intervals – just to name a few. In short, it is important to balance intelligent lubrication with cost-effective solutions. To read more about “The value of lubricants and lubrication”, please click here.
